The Scottish SPCA - Scotland's own animal welfare charity - was founded in 1839, when the welfare of cart-horses was the main area of concern. Since those days the Society has developed, and over the years it has grown into a dynamic and diverse organisation. Each year, Scottish SPCA Inspectors respond to over 100,000 calls for help. This can involve anything - from investigating a reported cruelty case, refloating a stranded dolphin or abseiling down a cliff face to rescue a dog.
