ESO is a classical music organisation based in Worcestershire. It was founded by William Boughton in 1978 and has since developed its reputation for specialising in British music through live performance and many recordings.

ESO comprises many different ensembles, from string and wind quartets through to string and full symphony orchestra. Our principal conductor is Vernon Handley, CBE, who was appointed in January 2007.

Our programme of performances and education schemes, and major decisions such as Dr Handley's appointment, are proposed and agreed by the musicians themselves, supported by other members of the ESO organisation.

Our purpose is to promote the joys of classical music to as wide an audience as possible - not just to those attending our concerts but also those involved in our development schemes; in all our activities we aim to "engage and lift the spirit", thereby helping to create the future audience for our music.
